GLASS AND GEMSTONE JEWELRY MADE IN UKRAINE IN THE 1950s–1960s

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to investigate transformations in the art metal industry of Ukraine and the activities of domestic jewelers specializing in the manufacture of jewelry during the 1950s and 1960s. The specifics of organizational and creative processes in the specified area are considered. The formation of a network of private workshops, individual milestones of jewelers-repairers, including those led by Rempobuttechnika and Remtochmechanika, are outlined. The connection of individual centers of artistic metal with the leading schools of Vyzhnytsia and Kosov, Lviv and Kyiv is visualized. The main idea of the research is related to the new assortment of productions and individual masters of the 1950s and 1960s. The research toolkit consists of the principle of authenticity, art history, design and management approaches, ontological, axiological, hermeneutic, sociocultural, cross-cultural, historical-genetic, historical-chronological, historical-comparative (comparative) and method art analysis. Among the main tasks of the research, it should be highlighted – the visualization of the names of specific artists who worked with jewelry in the specified period, the characteristics of the range of workshops and enterprises of Ukraine in the field of the 1950s – 1960s. In addition, the problem of studying the techniques of making products of the specified time period is emphasized, the peculiarities of the use of jewelrymaking stones and inserts made of glass and enamels are emphasized, and the ways of supplying the latter, including from abroad, are analyzed. Insufficient attention in domestic art studies to the sources of inspiration for individual products related to the influences of the jewelry art of the Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia) and the Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia) was noted. An assortment of native enterprises, where jewelers were employed in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as the products of artists who worked semi-legally or illegally (about thirty people in total) were revealed.
