POLYSTYLISM AS THE BASIC PRINCIPLE OF THE FORMATION OF THE UKRAINIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS

The purpose of the article is to analyze the progressive trends embodied in the educational practice of the first Ukrainian Academy of Arts. The publication emphasizes that at the time of its creation, the Ukrainian Academy of Arts had perhaps the most progressive program among similar European universities. The formation of the teaching staff, the structure of creative workshops, and the selection of students were carried out on the principles of democracy and personal freedom. The article focuses on the complete rejection of the academic principle of education in favor of the creation of author's workshops. Thanks to the liberal policy of the Academy's leadership, a unique situation of synthesis of different styles under the auspices of a state educational institution has developed. The activities of the heads of the workshops of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts at the initial stage of its creation are highlighted. Using the example of the works of O. Murashko, M. Burachek, A. Manevych, V. Krychevsky, G. Narbut, M. Boychuk of the late 1910s – early 1920s, the variety of artistic styles in the practice of teaching students of the Academy is shown. Separate works of the heads of the workshops are analyzed, which clearly present the stylistic features of the creativity of the masters of the specified period. Against the background of the absence of educational programs in the practice of the first workshops of the Academy, this analysis provides an understanding of what samples the first students of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts studied. Under the conditions of free choice of the head and the possibility of moving from workshop to workshop, a unique situation of creative rivalry developed between both the heads and the students. The atmosphere of creative freedom and inspiration led to the birth of the first generation of talented Ukrainian artists, who, in a short time before the beginning of Stalin's repressions, managed to bring Ukrainian art to the world stage.
