DUTCH STILL LIFE OF THE XVII CENTURY. FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE КHARKIV ART MUSEUM: STYLISTICS AND TYPOLOGY

Abstract

The article focuses on the study of the collection of Dutch still life in the collection of the Kharkiv Art Museum of the period of the heyday of this national school in the ХVII century.The special economic, socio-political and religious conditions of the country became a favourable ground for the development of Dutch art. Still life was one of the genres that developed as an original and independent phenomenon.In addition to their cultural and artistic significance, Dutch still lifes play the role of historical documents that reveal various aspects of life, both of the artists themselves and of society as a whole. In addition to the symbolic content, which is the main feature of the ХVII century still life, there is a growing interest in observing and studying the world.The purpose of the study is to analyse the structural, typological and stylistic features of Dutch still life from the collections of the Kharkiv Art Museum, to outline the periods of creation.Based on the systematisation and analysis of museum documents, the origin of the works is established, the works from the collection of the Kharkiv Museum of Art, the periods of creation, and the artistic language are analysed. The collection includes the following types of still lifes: ‘breakfast’, ‘dessert’, ‘flower’, ‘fish’, ‘hunting’ still lifes, ‘bird yards’ with expressed symbolism and peculiarities.The article establishes the correspondence of the style and typology of works of the Kharkiv collection of Dutch still life with the works of the most famous representatives of the genre.The problem of studying works from the museum collections of Ukraine, their origin, nationality, and attribution remains relevant for researchers today. Unfortunately, in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine, this task is becoming more complicated, but the accumulated factual material makes it possible to continue research.
