The purpose of the article is to study the impact of abstract illustrations in book design on the reader's perception, to analyse the role of abstract art in shaping emotional experience. Particular attention is paid to the study of the relationship between the visual component of a book (design) and emotional interaction with the audience. In the process of publishing books, illustrations play a key role, namely, they complement the text, create a mood, and add depth to the content. Abstract illustrations have the ability to work at the level of the reader's subconscious, stimulating their imagination and enhancing the overall perception of a literary work. Illustrations in book design can be interpreted differently by each reader, as they do not force you to stick to certain images or plots. This type of illustration appeals to hidden emotions that arise and personal interpretations (depending on the past experience, cultural context and preferences of the recipient of the information). It considers how abstract graphics can influence the perception of a text and the overall impression of a literary work, creating additional meanings, enhancing emotionality, and giving expressiveness. It also explores the impact of colour, shape and composition on the audience and how these elements can change the reader's emotional state. Color plays a role, in book design as it can evoke emotions and impact how readers view text and images visually. It can strengthen or weaken visual images, creating certain associations and psychological reactions that facilitate or, on the contrary, complicate the process of immersion in the text. Scientific research on colour shows that it can trigger certain cognitive processes, such as improved concentration and information retention, making it an important tool in book design to increase reading efficiency and emotional engagement. In addition, the article discusses the evolution of the illustrator's functions in modern book design. Nowadays, the illustrator is an active co-author of the work, as his or her creativity goes beyond illustrating the text and becomes an integral part of the overall concept of the book. Abstract illustrations contribute to strengthening the artistic concept of the work and add new layers of meaning, allowing the reader to dive deeper into the text and expand their perception.
