Abstract

The purpose of the article is a comprehensive study of the cultural and aesthetic mutual influence of Eastern and Western costume within the context of contemporary fashion design. The analysis covers the history of the relationship between these two costume paradigms, as well as the decorative elements and artistic techniques that define their specificity. Special attention is paid to the perception of Asian attire through the prism of the West’s longstanding fascination with Orientalism and the modern coexistence of diverse approaches to clothing. In this context, the features of creative methods from both East and West are identified, alongside the potential for their synthesis in the conditions of globalization and inclusive design. The research focuses on three vectors of Far Eastern design – Japanese, Chinese, and Korean – their characteristic features, the genesis of their relationship with Western costume, and their contemporary representation on Western runways. The study examines designers from these three countries who successfully operate in the global market and present their collections at Western fashion weeks. Among the key objectives is the analysis of the historical formation of clothing in these nations, the processes of Westernization of local traditions, and their impact on European and American fashion. Achieving these objectives involves analyzing cultural and aesthetic differences, identifying common traits, exploring the phenomenon of Orientalism in the development of Western fashion design, and outlining strategies for the evolution of these mutual influences within the modern aesthetic continuum. The scientific novelty lies in the systematization of the aesthetic and stylistic features of Japanese, Chinese, and South Korean costumes as factors that significantly influence global fashion design and contribute to further integration into the world cultural and aesthetic space.
