NICOLE LEMAIRE D’AGAGGIO’S CREATIVE AND DIPLOMATIC ACTIVITY: HERITAGE AND PERSPECTIVES

Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of the creative work and public activities in the field of European diplomacy of the prominent artist, art historian, cultural and public figure, Secretary General of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Literature (AESAL), Nicole Lemaire d’Agaggio. It examines her artistic development—from works in the field of expressionist portraiture to non-constructivist abstraction, from the technique of polychromatic drapery to series of works inspired by collaboration with prominent researchers in European molecular physics, with a critical review of Ukrainian and foreign art historical studies in this field. A specific analysis is provided of Nicole Lemaire d’Agaggio’s cultural, artistic, and public-diplomatic work in international projects of the AESAL under the auspices of the French Senate and UNESCO, in synergy with other institutions within a broad sociocultural context over the past 45 years, through the democratic liberation struggles, to the latest European integration projects. The article examines in detail the various aspects of artistic, scientific, and social cooperation between European and Ukrainian partners of the AESAL, including efforts to promote the creative and artistic legacy of Taras Shevchenko, Borys Oliynyk, Borys Chehodar, Dmytro Pavlychko, and Oleksandr Ivahnenko, as well as the essayistic heritage of Ukrainian-born Nobel Prize laureate Georges Charpak. As a conclusion of the study, the main achievements, challenges, and prospects for researching the work of Nicole Lemaire d’Agaggio in Ukrainian and international art history have been identified, and the leading directions of the AESAL’s current and future activities have been outlined, particularly in the field of Franco-Ukrainian cooperation.
