The article is devoted to identifying role of image-conceptual design in forming interior in modern libraries as multifunctional object-spatial environment. The study employs comparative, compositional and semiotic methods, which provide analysis of spatial organization, interior form-making and semantic impact of visual images. Analysis of contemporary library interiors enables understanding formation of new approaches to organization of object-spatial environment, based on the principles of openness, flexibility, and multifunctionality. The identified peculiarities of spatial design found basis for determination of key principles forming interior in modern libraries.
The research results testify that forming interior of modern library is influenced by transformation of its functional purpose – from traditional book repository to multifunctional cultural and educational environment. This stipulates necessity of comprehensive approach to organizing object-spatial structure of interior. Based on the conducted analysis, key principles for shaping interior of modern libraries have been identified.
The practical testing of the “city” concept has confirmed the feasibility of using metaphorical models in design, as they contribute to intuitive navigation and creation of emotionally expressive environment, enhance spatial clarity and strengthen user interaction with the environment. Moreover, application of creative source and development of image-conceptual design make interior design unique and relevant beyond the time and transient trends.
