The article examines the role of color drawing as an important tool for forming an artistic image in contemporary graphic design and art education. The study highlights the specific features of color application in the development of design concepts, where color functions not merely as a decorative element but as a structural component of form-making, emotional expressiveness, and semantic organization of the visual image. The relevance of the research is determined by the growing importance of visual communication in the digital environment and the necessity to improve the artistic and professional training of future designers.
The purpose of the study is to determine the significance of color drawing as a tool for shaping artistic imagery, developing figurative thinking, and forming professional competencies of designers. The methodological framework includes art historical analysis of visual practices, comparative analysis of scholarly sources on color theory, drawing and design, as well as generalization of theoretical and methodological approaches to visual image formation. The research is based on the analysis of educational and creative practices in design training, which made it possible to trace the role of color drawing in the development of compositional thinking and project vision.
The study establishes that color drawing is an essential stage in creating an artistic image specifically in graphic design, as it ensures the synthesis of linear-constructive, tonal, and coloristic means of expression. The use of color enhances the emotional content of an image, strengthens compositional structure, ensures visual integrity, and contributes to the stylistic unity of a design project. Color drawing intensifies the process of visual generalization of form, promotes observational skills, associative thinking, and the development of an individual graphic language of a future designer.
It is proven that the integration of color drawing into the educational process increases the effectiveness of professional skill formation, develops the ability for visual analysis, stylization, and artistic modeling of imagery. The results can be applied in teaching methodologies of academic disciplines, drawing courses, composition, and project graphics. Prospects for further research are related to the study of color drawing in digital graphic design, media art, and interdisciplinary visual communication practices.
