Abstract

The purpose of the article is to theoretically substantiate the role of visual identity as a tool for social integration and symbolic restoration of territorial communities in the post-conflict environment of Ukraine. The relevance of the article is due to the prevalence of the traditional approach to reconstruction as a reconstruction of physical space, which leaves out the symbolic, cultural, and psychological dimensions of community transformation.
It is emphasized that in the conditions of post-conflict restoration, identity is a socio-psychological mechanism that structures collective experience, supports a sense of stability and security, integrates traumatic memory into a promising narrative of development, and promotes the participation of residents in the transformation of space. The study is based on an integrated approach that combines research on cultural memory, environmental psychology, and branding of territories as a mechanism of social integration and psychological stabilization. It has been established that identity in a post-conflict environment creates stable visual landmarks that reduce cognitive load and anxiety; integrates experience into collective memory, forming transformational narratives; ensures community participation through participatory design, which strengthens social ties and trust; and supports the adaptability of the system in changing security and social conditions. A conceptual model of post-conflict branding is proposed, which involves a balance between official and grassroots identities, a combination of memory and hope, the structure of visual language, flexibility, and empathy.
The scientific novelty of the article lies in the conceptualization of visual identity as a multi-level tool for social integration and psychological stabilization in post-conflict Ukrainian communities, as well as in the development of a model of post-conflict branding that combines symbolic transformation, participatory design, and ethical principles of reconstruction.
The practical significance of the work lies in the formulation of recommendations for designers, communication teams, and local governments on the use of identity as a mechanism for social support and integration of communities in the process of long-term post-conflict reconstruction.
