COMBINING HAIRSTYLE AND COSTUME IN CREATING AN INDIVIDUAL WOMAN’S IMAGE

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to identify the role of hairstyle and costume as the main components of creating an individual image, to analyze ways of their harmonious combination using examples of creating an everyday and informal female image. The research methodology is based on an interdisciplinary approach that combines both general methods - analysis, synthesis, and generalization; and art history methods of figurative-stylistic and formal analysis of costume and hairstyle, which allowed us to identify ways of combining these elements into a single structural integrity. Seven stages of creating an individual image of a woman based on the synthesis of styles according to needs, style preferences, and age characteristics are proposed. Examples of author’s development and photofixation of three individual images for different purposes and the algorithm for their creation are given: an everyday image based on a synthesis of baby-doll and sports styles, which is offered for meeting friends, and two informal images - based on a synthesis of the «punk» style with replicas of the Twiggy style (for a party) and based on a combination of military and lingerie styles for travel and recreation. The synthesis of styles was applied as a method in the formation of an individual female image in the unity of components: hairstyle, makeup, clothes, shoes, accessories. As an approach to creating each individual image, a synthesis of two opposing styles was proposed, thanks to which it was possible to trace how all components in the developed image are combined, in particular, hairstyle and costume, as well as what elements of clothing styles and hairstyles were used in the creation of each image. The analysis of promising techniques for combining hairstyles and costumes in an individual female image and the results of their practical implementation complement the insufficiently studied areas in the theory and practice of design. A promising direction for further research is the scientific understanding of such categories as «everyday image», «informal image», «fashionable image».
