BIOPHILIC DESIGN AS AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY (using the example of water elements)

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to determine the aspects of one of the directions of biophilic design – nature in the surrounding space, which is solved by means of water elements. The theoretical material was analyzed and systematized and the best examples of design practice of specialists were studied, which provide an understanding of the implementation of the necessary ways to comply with the sustainable development strategy. The characteristics and principles and methods of using water components in the formation of landscape design in the public space system were identified, as evidenced by the variety of the most effective concepts for solving problems related to the sustainable development strategy. These natural components play a vital role in maintaining the ecosystem in the required state, in supporting important biological processes in humans and solving issues of their comfortable psychophysiological state. The element of water in its various manifestations was analyzed; it was determined that water has great cultural and symbolic significance for different societies. Various author’s concepts related to the natural elements of water in the formation of the design of the architectural and landscape environment have been systematized, the use of which contributes to the improvement of a person’s psychological health not only from its contemplation, but also the touch and sound of flowing water are important. During the systematization of the visual material, additional components were identified that improve the perception of a professionally designed space and contribute to a person’s psychological comfort. Among the main ones were identified: plants and stones (of different sizes, colors, textures). The conceptual ideas of the project authors were revealed, reflecting the presence of two interrelated aspects: a visual connection with nature and various sensory stimuli. As a result, the analysis of scientific sources and the systematization of examples of design practice indicated the relevance of the research topic and the ways of further exploration in this direction.
